Boy, 14, hurt in Newton Mearns hit-and-run

A 14-year-old boy has been injured by a car in a hit-and-run incident in Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire.

The teenager was struck while crossing Ayr Road, near Firwood Road, at about 08:00 on Monday. The car paused for a short time then drove off.

The boy was treated for a broken wrist at Glasgow Victoria Infirmary.

Police have appealed for help in finding the driver and identifying the car which is described as a small, dark coloured 4x4 vehicle.

Sgt Kirsten McLatchie, of Police Scotland, said: "This is a highly populated area and at that time of the morning there would have been a lot of people and vehicles around.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have been on their way to work, going to school or going to the local shops in the area to contact us with any information they may have.

"We are in the process of checking CCTV images to gather additional information and are urging people to get in touch."
