West Dunbartonshire Council backs new Balloch education campus

Councillors in West Dunbartonshire have approved plans to build a £15.4m combined education campus in Balloch.

The new facility will be built on the existing St Kessog's Primary school site and is scheduled to open in 2017.

It will educate almost 500 children from St Kessog's, amalgamated Haldane and Jamestown primary schools, as well as pre-school and support needs pupils.

The council said the campus would replace schools which were under occupied and showing major defects.

Michelle McGinty, convener of the council's educational services, said: "This is fantastic news for the communities of Balloch, Haldane and Jamestown and that has been recognised by parents and carers.

"The existing school buildings are no longer fit for purpose.

"Our children deserve to be educated in 21st Century buildings which allow them to fully realise their potential. That is what this project will deliver."
