Peter McDermott faces trial over murder of dad Bernard

A man is to stand trial charged with murdering his 65-year-old father.

Peter McDermott is accused of attacking Bernard McDermott at a flat in Lynedoch Street, Greenock, on 23 April 2014.

The 41-year-old is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed his father on the head, neck and body.

He is also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice by hiding a bloodstained knife and washing blood from his hands. At the High Court in Glasgow, a trial was set for June.

Mr McDermott is further accused of having a knife in a public place and a separate charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.
