Pensioner suffers broken wrist in Saltcoats robbery

A 75-year-old woman suffered a broken wrist after she was attacked and robbed while walking home from a pub.

The pensioner had her handbag snatched and was pushed to the ground during the incident in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, at about 23:30 on Saturday.

She was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where she is receiving treatment.

Her attacker was white, about 25 years old, 5ft 9in to 6ft 2in tall, and was wearing a grey hooded top.

Police said the woman had been walking home from a local pub with a friend before they split up.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Raise Street and Giffen Road around the time of the attack to come forward.

Det Insp William McDicken, of Saltcoats CID, said: "This is a sickening attack on a defenceless woman as she was making her way home from a night out with her friend. The man responsible for this cowardly attack must be caught as soon as possible.

"Officers are currently carrying out inquiries and gathering CCTV images to gain more information on the suspect."
