Police are treating the "targeted" stabbing of a man as attempted murder.

The 19-year-old victim was walking in the Yoker area of Glasgow when he was stabbed by two men who had been in a black Vauxhall Corsa that pulled up beside him.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary, where his condition was said to be stable.

The incident happened in Dumbarton Road, near Dyke Road, at about 13:30 on Friday afternoon.

There is no description of the two suspects.

Police described the stabbing as a "targeted attack" but said it "beggars belief" that it happened in the middle of the afternoon near a busy main road and houses.

Det Con Scott Brockie said the car involved in the incident had "raced off" north along Dyke Road after the attack.

Appealing for potential witnesses to come forward, he asked: "Did you see the car and where it went after that? Also, Dumbarton Road is a very busy road with lots of vehicles, pedestrians - basically lots of people would have been about.

"I am sure that someone saw this attack happen and will have information, possibly in their mind insignificant, but which may be great importance to us."
