Vehicle recovery man dies and colleague hurt in Glasgow crash

A man has died and another has been seriously injured after they were hit by a car while trying to recover a broken down vehicle in Glasgow.

The men, aged 62 and 48, were hit by a BMW car on Scotland Street, near Shields Road, at about 18:20 on Monday.

Both were taken to the Southern General Hospital where the 62-year-old man later died. His colleague remains in a serious but stable condition.

The BMW driver was not injured. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Police said the accident happened on the westbound carriageway after the men had parked their Mercedes recovery vehicle, which was also struck by the BMW.

The road was closed for several hours to allow work by crash scene investigators. It has since re-opened.
