Police probe 'torrent of racial abuse' on Glasgow road

Police are attempting to trace a man who subjected two Asian men to a "torrent of racial abuse" in Glasgow.

The victims were in a car, believed to be a Volkswagen, at traffic lights on Old Govan Road, when a white Land Rover Discover drove up beside them.

The man got out and abused the pair before following their car on to the M8 motorway near Braehead Shopping Centre.

Although the victims did not report the abuse, police were alerted to the incident by other drivers.

Officers are reviewing CCTV images from the area and would like to speak to the two men who were the target of the abuse.

'Not acceptable'

A police spokesman said: "There is no room in our society for racial abuse and it is not acceptable to treat people in such a manner.

"I have no doubt that this incident caused individuals considerable distress, but I would like to reassure them that this matter is under investigation and I am urging them to get in touch with us so that we can continue to progress our investigation.

"I would like to thank the members of the public who contacted police to report the matter, indicating clearly that people in Scotland will not tolerate racism."

The spokesman added: "If anyone has any additional information or knowledge, please do get in touch with us."
