Man, 34, dies in head on crash near Tarbolton

Police have released the name of a man who died in a head-on crash on the A719 in South Ayrshire.

Gordon Hill, 34, from Irvine, died at the scene of the crash, near Tarbolton, at about 09:50 on Tuesday.

A male passenger, 44, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and a female passenger, 21, is in a stable condition in hospital.

The driver of the other car, a 48-year-old man, was treated in hospital for a leg injury and later discharged.

Police said Mr Hill had been driving a northbound silver Honda Jazz which was in a collision with a southbound black Ford Focus.

Mr Hill's family said: "Gordon will be sadly missed by his family and friends and we would like to express our thanks to all the emergency services who attended the road crash."

Sgt Ian Thornton, of Police Scotland, said: "Inquiries are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have information that would assist our investigation to contact the divisional road policing unit at Irvine."
