Appeal after smoke bomb set off at busy rail station

British Transport Police have appealed for help in finding a man who set off a smoke bomb at a busy rail station.

The incident on the platform of Paisley St James station happened at 17:15 on Saturday, shortly after the St Mirren v Morton game ended at St Mirren Park.

The suspect is described as about 18 years old, with dark hair. He was wearing a grey hooded top with a red logo on it, jeans and trainers.

He boarded a train and is believed to have exited at Greenock West station.

British Transport Police said the pyrotechnic was discharged just as a train - the 16:55 service from Glasgow Central to Gourock - arrived at the station.

Det Con Marc Francey said: "The platform was extremely busy with people waiting for the train and the dangers and potential circumstances of such a stupid action cannot be underestimated.

"If you were at the station and witnessed the incident please contact British Transport Police as a matter of urgency."
