A man has been cleared of murdering a mother-of-four by stabbing her with a knife at a flat in South Lanarkshire.

Craig Simpson, 36, had denied murdering 36-year-old Margaret Quinn at the flat in Skye Road, Cathkin, on 12 June 2015.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that she died from a stab wound to her back which went through her heart.

The case against Mr Simpson was found not proven. A charge that he attempted to murder John Paul Quinn was withdrawn before it went to the jury.

Mr Quinn had also denied that charge.

Judge Nigel Morrison QC told Mr Simpson: "You have been acquitted by the jury. You are free to go."
