Man seriously injured in street attack in Ayr

A 41-year-old man has been seriously injured in a street attack in Ayr.

The victim was found in the town's Main Street just after midnight on Sunday

He is currently being treated for a serious head injury at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Police are conducting door-to-door inquiries and gathering CCTV footage from the area and have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack or has information to get in touch.

Det Sgt Jane Hogg said: "Our inquiries so far have revealed the man has been subjected to a serious assault.

"We are in the process of trying to piece together his movements and establish exactly what has happened to him.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or heard any sort of disturbance in the area to contact us.

The detective added: "Any information or knowledge about the crime or the suspect could prove vital in our inquiries as we try to trace whoever is responsible."
