Police name man who died after being hit by car in Blantyre

Police have released the name of a man who died after being struck by a car in South Lanarkshire at the weekend.

James McDowell was seriously injured while crossing Glasgow Road in Blantyre at about 00:45 on Saturday.

The 59-year-old, from Blantyre, was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride but died a short time later.

The 18-year-old car driver and his two teenage passengers did not need medical treatment. Investigations are ongoing and police have appealed for witnesses.
