Man sought over sexual assault in Irvine
Police have appealed for information after a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in North Ayrshire.
The incident occurred at about 03:30 on Sunday, when a man ran at a woman who was walking on Galt Avenue in Irvine before assaulting her.
The victim managed to make her way home and contacted police.
Police Scotland said the attack had left the woman "extremely distressed and upset". Officers are gathering CCTV footage from around the area.
Following the incident, the suspect ran off towards Bank Street.
He was described as white, between 20 and 25 years old and about 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing a dark grey hooded top with the hood pulled tight around his face.
Det Sgt Paul Richmond said: "This attack has left a young woman extremely distressed and upset and it's imperative we trace the man responsible.
"Our inquiries carried out so far have revealed that there may have been someone out walking their dog around the time of the incident and I would appeal to that person to contact us.
"Although the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, it's possible someone saw the suspect running off. Perhaps you were on your way home from a night out and noticed him running away or saw something which appeared a little suspicious.
"If you have any information or knowledge regarding this incident, please contact us as soon as possible - what you know could prove vital in our investigation so please do pass it on."
