Shotts street disturbance death 'suspicious'

A man has died after a "large scale disturbance" in a North Lanarkshire town.

Police were called to Inverkip Drive in Shotts at about 02:00 on Sunday and found a 41-year-old man seriously injured.

Paramedics treated him, but he died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will be held to establish the exact cause of death, which officers are treating as suspicious.

A second man, 20, was also injured during the altercation.

He was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he was treated and has since been released.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
