Gunfire incident in Hamilton was a 'targeted attack'

A street disturbance which saw a gun fired is being treated as a "targeted attack", police have said.

The incident was reported in William Drive, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, at about 00:20 on Sunday.

When officers arrived at the scene they concluded that a firearm had been discharged, resulting in damage to a vehicle, but no-one had been injured.

Police are studying CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door inquiries in a bid to trace those responsible.

'Brazen criminality'

Det Insp Kevin Jamieson said: "Inquiries are at a very early stage in determining the circumstances surrounding this incident, however, at this time we believe this was a targeted attack.

"We know that a gun was fired at around 0020 hours resulting in a nearby vehicle sustaining damage. No-one was injured as a result.

"We will not tolerate such brazen criminality in our communities. I want to reassure those who live locally that we are doing all we can to trace the person or persons responsible."

Det Insp Jamieson urged anyone in the area with information to approach officers.
