Police response probed after man's death in Paisley

An investigation has begun into the police's response to a disturbance in Paisley after which a man died.

William Brittle, 60, was allegedly assaulted at a flat in the Renfrewshire town's Broomlands Street on 6 June.

He died the following day at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Two men, aged 26 and 45, and a 41-year-old woman, were arrested in connection with his death.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) has now begun an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman for the PIRC said: "The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner has been instructed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service to carry out an investigation in relation to the initial police response to an incident on 6 June in Paisley.

"A report into the findings of the investigation will be submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in due course."
