Search launched for car occupants after Oban loch crash

The emergency services are dealing with an incident in which a car is thought to have run into a loch in Argyll.

Unconfirmed reports have suggested two people remain in the vehicle, which is under the water.

Police were called to the incident on the A816 north of Kilmelford, near Oban, at about 16:00.

A helicopter and a coastguard team have been searching Loch nan Druimnean, which is on the Oban to Lochgilphead road, 17 miles from Oban.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At around 4pm on Wednesday police and other emergency services responded to a report of a car going into a loch north of Kilmelford, on the A816 near to Oban.

"Emergency services are still at the scene dealing with the incident."
