Death of man in lane near Wishaw 'not suspicious'

Police have said the death of a man whose body was found in a lane in North Lanarkshire is not suspicious.

The man was discovered close to Braedale Crescent, in Newmains, near Wishaw, at about 13:05 on Monday.

Police initially said that the death was being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination would be held to establish how the man died.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said that following investigations there were no suspicious circumstances.

She said: "At around 1305 hours on Monday 1 August 2016 police were called to a lane close Braedale Crescent in Wishaw, where the body of a man was discovered.

"The man has been formally identified and his relatives have been informed.

"The death is being treated as non-suspicious. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
