A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a bus in Glasgow.

The 46-year-old was struck by a single-decker First Bus vehicle as he crossed Argyle Street, near its junction with Old Dumbarton Road, at 09:40.

Police said he suffered "serious, possibly life-threatening injuries" and is in a serious condition at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Sgt Jackie Dunbar, of Greater Glasgow Divisional Road Policing Unit, has appealed for witnesses to the incident.

He said: "Whilst we have spoken to a number of people who stopped to try and help the injured man, we still need to hear from others who may have witnessed the crash or who have any information that will help us with our investigation."

The road was closed while police carried out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Argyle Street at Old Dumbarton Road and Sauchiehall Street at Kelvin Way re-opened to traffic at about 13:30.
