Man detained over rape of 14-year-old girl outside supermarket

A 19-year-old man has been detained by police investigating the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl outside a supermarket in East Renfrewshire.

The girl was attacked as she went to collect her bicycle after leaving Asda in the Barrhead's Main Street Shopping Centre on Sunday evening.

She told police a man dragged her into bushes behind a nearby Iceland store.

Police Scotland said a 19-year-old man was in custody and a report would be sent to prosecutors.
