Man dies after two vehicle crash on A77

A 55-year-old man has died after a crash between a car and a lorry on the A77 in South Ayrshire.

Police said the two vehicles collided between Ballantrae and Cairnryan at about 13:55 on Wednesday.

Emergency services attended but the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His relatives have been told.

Officers have urged anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

Sgt Iain Pittams said: "Enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of this incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Irvine via 101."
