Woman may have lain dead in Troon home for months

Police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old woman from Ayrshire amid reports that she may have lain dead in the family home for months.

Police were called to the home of Sharon Greenop in Aldersyde Avenue, Troon, on 10 November after neighbours reportedly complained of the smell.

It is understood she shared the property with her sister and daughter.

Police said inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Mrs Greenop's death were ongoing.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: "Around 1620 hours on Thursday 10 November 2016, police discovered the body of a 46-year-old woman within a property in Aldersyde Avenue in Troon.

"The relatives of the woman have been informed.

"A post-mortem examination has been carried out. Officers are treating the death as unexplained at this time and inquiries are ongoing."
