Man dies on housing estate building site

A man has died while working on a building site in South Lanarkshire.

Police said emergency services were called to the site near Shott Farm on Hamilton Road in High Blantyre at about 09:45.

Paramedics treated a seriously injured 45-year-old man, but he died at the scene.

He was working at the Avant Homes construction site. The company said an investigation had been launched and all work at the site had been suspended.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "A post mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death, which is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

"The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

A spokeswoman for Avant Homes said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm a man died in an incident at our construction site in High Blantyre today.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time. An investigation has been launched immediately and all works have been suspended whilst we assist the emergency services."
