Man jailed over abuse of former partner

A convicted rapist who attacked his partner and threatened to post an intimate video online has been jailed for 30 months.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Anthony McAteer, 58, admitted conduct which caused the woman fear or alarm between April and June 2014.

The father-of-five, from Pollokshaws, also admitted a string of assaults.

On one occasion he punched her and broke her nose. He also threw a clock at her, and hit her with a chair.

Sheriff John McCormick said: "Whilst you may not have a history of domestic violence you have a record that does you no credit and includes a conviction for rape in 2004."

He also granted a three year non-harassment order meaning McAteer cannot contact his victim.
