Severe weather warning for Western Isles

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the Western Isles.

Forecasters said south to south-west winds were expected to increase to severe gale force on Friday evening, with gusts of about 70mph.

The Met Office said road conditions could be affected overnight into Saturday morning.

High winds have already disrupted ferry sailings and the Barra to South Uist service along with a freight sailing from Ullapool have been cancelled.

The islands' council - Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - has alerted councillors and its employees to the weather warning.
