Search resumes in Kyle for missing Mallaig woman

A sea and land search has resumed for a woman in her 50s who has gone missing after driving to Kyle of Lochalsh from her home in Mallaig.

Two lifeboats, Royal Navy vessels and the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter were called out to look for the woman on Monday evening.

However, the operation at the Skye Bridge and Kyle of Lochalsh was stood down when darkness fell.

Police dog teams have now started a fresh search of the area.

Coastguards will make a shoreline search later.

Northern Constabulary said the woman was driving a light blue VW Polo registration SY03 URE. The car has been found.

A police spokesman said: "It is believed that she parked her vehicle in Kyle at some point during the day, before possibly going for a walk.

"Police are interested to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle or a female walking on the Skye bridge or in the Kyle area."
