Cargo ship in difficulty in high winds off Rum

A rescue operation has been launched to save a cargo ship that has got into difficulty off the south west side of Rum in gale force winds.

The Red Duchess is carrying coal supplies to Stornoway on Lewis but suffered engine failure just after midday.

Mallaig lifeboat has been keeping the vessel in position.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency tug - Anglian Prince - has been sent to the scene to tow the ship to safety.
