Police tackle gang-led brothels in Inverness

Police have mounted an operation to tackle prostitution and brothels in the Inverness area.

Northern Constabulary believed one, or a number, of gangs have been involved.

It said a small number of women have been identified as prostitutes and has appealed to the public to alert the force to suspected brothels.

A police spokesman said: "The force is concerned enough to have mounted a divisional operation because of the crimes surrounding prostitution."

He added: "Members of the public with information about such activity can phone the police or Crimestoppers."

In a report to last week's Northern Joint Police Board, the force said the operation was identifying prostitutes and the locations of brothels.

The report said: "These women are suspected to be part of a crime group, or groups, who are organising and facilitating prostitution within the division."
