Bad weather closes Western Isles schools

A decision has been taken to shut 11 schools on the Western Isles on Friday because of bad weather.

The local authority Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said parents and carers should check its website for any further closures.

A handful of schools closed early in Highland on Thursday.

Northern Constabulary said roads in Caithness, Lochaber, Badenoch and on Skye have been affected by snow and ice.

Police said driving conditions on the A87 at Glenvarragil and at Breakish on Skye were extremely difficult.

Isles school closures announced so far are: The Nicolson Institute, Laxdale, Back, Knock, Aird, Cròileagan an Rudha, Point Nursery, Bayble, Sandwick, Sgoil nan Loch and Pairc.
