A council has sought volunteers to clear drains on a footpath in what it describes as one of Scotland's "most enigmatic landscapes".

Highland Council needs helpers to sign up for work to be done next January on the route to Skye's Old Man of Storr.

People have also been asked to volunteer for restoration work on other footpaths on Skye during 2011 and 2012.

The council said a typical day would involve clearing debris from drains that cross the paths.

John Phillips, Highland Council's senior countryside ranger, said: "Its hard work but great fun.

"The reward is knowing that you have done a hard day's work helping to preserve some of Scotland's most stunning landscapes."
