Heavy snow forecast for Highlands and Western Isles

The Met Office has warned of frequent wintry showers over the Highlands and Western Isles later in the week.

Forecasters said snow could reach depths of 1-5cm at low level and up to 15cm over the mountains.

They added that there could also be some drifting snow because of strong to gale force winds.

The Met Office issued the "be aware" advisory for Wednesday. Scotland was blanketed by heavy snowfalls at the end of last year.
