A man who was allegedly murdered by his brother has been described by his family as "popular and lovable".

Andrew Fraser, 29, was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness on Monday following an incident in Merkinch.

He died of his injuries on Wednesday and his brother Gary, 31, later appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court accused of stabbing and murdering him.

Mr Fraser appeared in private and made no plea or declaration.

In a statement released by police, the brothers' family thanked the emergency services and hospital staff for their help.

The family said: "We, the family of Andrew David Fraser, are devastated by the loss of our popular and lovable son, brother and uncle.

"He will be sadly missed by his family and all those who knew him."
