A woman has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years after pleading guilty to failing to properly feed and look after a dog.

Marlana Uppal, from Ardersier, near Inverness, was also placed on 12 months probation at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The Scottish SPCA said her Chinese crested powder puff, Paddy, was not protected from suffering and disease.

The charity said the emaciated eight-year-old dog had made a full recovery and had been re-homed.

SSPCA senior inspector, Andy Brown, said Paddy was found living in "awful conditions".

He said: "Paddy was severely emaciated, had overgrown nails and his coat had to be shaved as it was badly matted and soaked in urine.

"Thankfully he made a full recovery and we found him a loving new home."
