Independent wins Tain and Easter Ross ward election

Independent candidate Fiona Robertson has won a by-election for Highland Council's Tain and Easter Ross ward.

Ms Robertson won with 1,204 votes at the final stage under single transferable count rules.

The by-election followed the death of SNP councillor Alan Torrance, 68, in March after a long illness.

Ms Robertson is one of three councillors who represent the ward, the other two being Independents Alan Rhind and Richard Durham.
