Big cat may have attacked Sutherland sheep, police say

Police are investigating reports a large cat attacked and killed sheep and lambs in a part of the Scottish Highlands.

Northern Constabulary said the incidents were reported on 4 and 9 June in Sutherland's Edderton Hill area.

A spokeswoman said: "Police are looking into the possibility that the sheep may have been attacked by a large cat, due to the nature of the injuries."

Last year, a "very large black cat" was seen near Aviemore.

Police appealed to hillwalkers to report sightings of the animal after it was seen by a member of the public in woodland at Inshriach, Kincraig.
