Clan Donald Land Trust opens deer abattoir on Skye

A trust behind plans to build a new village on Skye has opened an abattoir to process deer to produce its own venison products.

The Clan Donald Land Trust's plant in Sleat ends the need to transport deer to Dingwall, near Inverness, to be processed.

The trust was given outline planning permission for a new village with 93 homes and university campus.

The project is for a site at Kilbeg next to Sabhal Mor Ostaig college.

If given full planning permission, the scheme would be constructed in phases over a 20-year period.

The 40 acre (16 ha) site is on a 20,000 acres (8,093 ha) estate in Sleat.

Sabhal Mor Ostaig is part of the new University of the Highlands and Islands.
