Piper Allan MacDonald in Siberian jaw harp record bid

A Scottish piper will be among a thousand jaw harp players expected to gather in Siberia in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record.

Allan MacDonald, from Glenuig, near Fort William, and his brothers Iain and Angus are well-known Highland pipers.

Mr MacDonald is also an accomplished jaw harp player and will take part in the record attempt in Yakutia later this week.

The small instrument is placed firmly against a player's teeth.

It was once popular in Scotland and is still played in large numbers in eastern Russia.

Mr MacDonald said he was not too sure what to expect, but has been told musicians from Argentina, Norway, the US and Canada were to take part.
