Police name man in Invergordon steel incident

A man who died in hospital after he became trapped under a steel structure at an engineering firm has been named by police.

Pipe fitter Donald MacDonald, 55, was from Fearn, in Ross-shire.

The incident happened at Port and Supply Base, in Invergordon, at about 0845 BST on Sunday.

The emergency services were called to the Shore Road site when Mr MacDonald suffered serious injuries. He was airlifted to hospital in Inverness.

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed.
