Bird is suspected cause of Belford hospital fly problem

A dead bird has been suspected as the cause of a fly infestation at a hospital in Fort William.

The operating theatre at Belford Hospital has been shut temporarily to allow pest control officers to tackle the flies in adjoining rooms.

NHS Highland said the bird may have become trapped when windows and cladding were recently replaced.

Patients requiring minor surgery can still be treated at Belford while other hospitals will handle major operations.

A spokeswoman for the health board said: "There is a suspicion that when windows and cladding were recently replaced a bird could have been nesting and has become trapped and died."
