Thurso man on axe and child abduction charges

A man has been accused of abducting a child, detaining him against his will and causing him unnecessary suffering.

James Carruthers, of Thurso, is also alleged to have attempted to strike two police officers with an axe and threatening to injure and kill them.

The 36-year-old faces further accusations of assault and being unfit to drive because of drink or drugs.

Mr Carruthers has denied a total of six charges. He was remanded in custody at Wick Sheriff Court.

He was refused bail and trial was set for 16 September.
