A park bench dedicated to a student nurse who was killed in a crash in 2005 has been stolen.

A brass plaque on the seat is inscribed with the words: "In loving memory of Debbie Garrow who passed away 19th June 2005. Donated by those who care."

Miss Garrow, 19, was thrown from a car when it crashed on a B-class road between Alness and Invergordon.

The driver Jodie Gripton, also 19, was sent to a young offenders institution and banned from driving for five years.

The two women, both from Invergordon, had been friends since they were children.

Police said the bench was taken from a grassed area on Shore Road between Alness and Invergordon between 24 and 25 September.

Gripton was jailed for four years at the High Court in Aberdeen in 2006 for causing the crash which killed her friend and passenger Miss Garrow.
