UK government working on coastguard tug deal

The UK government has said it hoped to finalise arrangements to keep Scotland's two emergency tugs at sea.

The contract for the vessels ran out on Friday. An agreement could be reached later, or on Tuesday.

The UK government had said the millions of pounds spent on the towing vessels was not a good use of public money.

But on Friday it agreed to a three-month interim contract to allow time for alternatives to the service, or how it is funded, to be negotiated.
