World War II munitions dug up at Wick Assembly Rooms

A large quantity of World War II ordnance has been dug up in Wick.

Volunteers made the find on Monday afternoon while creating the foundations for a new flag pole behind the town's Assembly Rooms.

A bomb disposal team was alerted and were expected to safely destroy the ordnance, which were thought to include grenades, later.

The Assembly Rooms would remain closed until the area was declared safe, the police said.
