Routine tests find Dounreay radioactivity levels 'safe'

The levels of radioactivity around Dounreay are "well within safe limits", according to the results of independent monitoring.

Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL), the company leading the demolition of the Caithness site, said levels were below legal limits.

The results are contained in the newly-published Radioactivity in Food and the Environment 2010.

Monitoring takes samples from around 39 nuclear sites in the UK.
