Children in Need: TV presenter to row in the isles
A Gaelic television and radio presenter training for a solo row from New York to Stornoway is to row the length of the Western Isles for Children in Need.
Niall Iain Macdonald, 37, rowed from Lewis, across the Minch, to Ullapool on the Scottish mainland in 2008.
He plans to travel 100 miles (160km) from Castlebay on Barra to Stornoway on Lewis over three days.
Mr Macdonald hopes to start his North Atlantic crossing attempt, called NY2SY, at the end of May next year.
The presenter hopes to set off from Barra on Wednesday.
He said: "I've been wanting to tackle this route through the Minch all summer and I'm glad that I can do one final row before the end of the year.
"It will be my longest one to date, 100 miles over three days, and it will be strange as I will be rowing in darkness, more than daylight, due to the short days."
