Inverness mum fined and banned for drink-driving

Police were alerted to a drink-driver after she was seen lifting a drunk man into her car from where he had been lying on a pavement, a court has heard.

Mother-of-four Joan Stewart, of Inverness, was almost three times over the drink-drive limit when police stopped her on 22 October last year.

A witness called police after they noticed the 38-year-old was drunk when she stopped to pick up the man.

Stewart has been fined £600 and banned from driving for 20 months.

Appearing at Inverness Sheriff Court, she admitted drink-driving.

Her solicitor, Craig Wood, said the offence was "completely out of character" as Stewart did not normally drink alcohol.

Police were alerted after Stewart was seen on Inverness's Grant Street, the court heard.

Officers stopped her on the city's Stadium Road.
