A 52-year-old Spanish fisherman has been airlifted to hospital after he was badly injured in a fall from a boat in a Wester Ross harbour.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident in Ullapool at about 01:30.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) search and rescue helicopter from Stornoway airlifted the man to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

It is understood that he hit his head during the fall. Police said his injuries were life threatening.
