Inverness man denies stealing family pets in Smithton

A 20-year-old man has denied stealing 15 pets, including four baby rabbits, from properties in Smithton, Inverness, over three nights.

James Marshall, of Inverness, appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court and pleaded not guilty to eight offences.

It was alleged that he stole four ferrets, four guinea pigs, three adult rabbits and four baby rabbits.

The thefts were alleged to have happened between 20-23 February while he was on bail.

Mr Marshall also denied stealing a packet of bird feed, a plastic container, a skipping rope, two hutches and attempting to open a hutch to steal a rabbit.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson remanded Mr Marshall in custody and set a trial date for 29 March.
