Highland Council gives grant towards Nigg regeneration

Highland Council has given £630,000 towards the costs of regenerating the Nigg oil and gas yard in Easter Ross.

The grant from the local authority's vacant and derelict land fund has been awarded to Global Energy Group, the new owners of the site.

Global Energy purchased the facility on the Cromarty Firth from KBR and the Wakelyn Trust for an undisclosed fee.

The company intends to develop the 238-acre (96.14 hectares) site as a service hub for the energy industry.

The firm expects to employ 2,000 people by 2015.
