Highland and Moray colleges receive government funds

Almost £2m is to be used to help tackle youth unemployment in the Highlands and Moray, the Scottish government has said.

The funding will be shared out between Thurso-based North Highland College, Inverness College and Elgin-based Moray College.

The colleges are part of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).

The money will go towards funding full-time college places and hospitality training.

Angela Constance, Minister for Youth Employment, announced the award of about £1.95m during a visit to Inverness College.

The funding is in addition to more than £5.7m in European Union given to UHI in December.
